Buzz Williams is an American basketball coach currently serving as the head coach of the Texas A&M University men’s basketball team. Born on September 1, 1972, in Van Alstyne, Texas, he has built a distinguished coaching career over the past two decades.

Coaching Career:

  • New Orleans (2006–2007): Williams began his head coaching career with a one-year tenure at the University of New Orleans, where he led the team to a 14–17 record.
  • Marquette University (2008–2014): He then moved to Marquette University, spending six seasons there and achieving a record of 139–69. ​
  • Virginia Tech (2014–2019): Williams served as the head coach at Virginia Tech for five seasons, compiling a 100–69 record.
  • Texas A&M University (2019–Present): In April 2019, he became the head coach at Texas A&M. Under his leadership, the Aggies have seen significant success, including earning Southeastern Conference (SEC) Coach of the Year honors in both the 2019–2020 and 2022–2023 seasons.

In March 2025, Texas A&M guard Jace Carter publicly disclosed the challenges he faced, including death threats and racial slurs on social media, despite his contributions to the team’s success. Personal Life:

Williams earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Oklahoma City University in 1994 and a master’s degree from Texas A&M University–Kingsville in 1999. He and his wife, Corey Norman, married in 2000 and have two daughters and two sons. His energetic coaching style led to the nickname “Buzz” during his time at Navarro College.
