Daryl Hannah, born on December 3, 1960, in Chicago, Illinois, is an American actress and environmental activist. She is the daughter of Susan Jeanne (Metzger), a schoolteacher and producer, and Donald Christian Hannah, who owned a tugboat and barge company. Hannah has Scottish, Norwegian, Danish, Irish, English, and German ancestry.
Hannah began her acting career with a debut in Brian De Palma’s horror film The Fury (1978). She gained prominence with notable roles in the 1980s, including:
- Blade Runner (1982) as the replicant Pris.
- Splash (1984) portraying the mermaid Madison.
- Steel Magnolias (1989) as Annelle Dupuy-DeSoto.
In Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004), Hannah played the assassin Elle Driver, earning a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Beyond acting, Hannah is deeply involved in environmental advocacy. She has been recognized for her commitment to environmental preservation and activism.
In recent years, Hannah has made rare public appearances. At the 2025 Oscars, she presented the award for Best Film Editing and voiced support for Ukraine by chanting “Slava Ukraini!” (“Glory to Ukraine”).
