Dre Greenlaw is an American football linebacker who played for the San Francisco 49ers. Born on May 25, 1997, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, he stands 6 feet tall and weighs 230 pounds. Greenlaw played college football at the University of Arkansas before being selected by the 49ers in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Throughout his NFL career, Greenlaw has been a key contributor to the 49ers’ defense. As of the 2024 season, he has accumulated 455 total tackles, 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, 14 pass deflections, three interceptions, and two defensive touchdowns.
In February 2024, during Super Bowl LVIII, Greenlaw suffered a torn Achilles tendon, which sidelined him for the start of the 2024 season. After an extensive rehabilitation period, he was activated from the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list in December 2024, returning to play in Week 15 against the Los Angeles Rams.
As of March 2025, Greenlaw is an unrestricted free agent. The 49ers have expressed a strong desire to re-sign him, with head coach Kyle Shanahan stating, “We’re doing everything in the world we can to bring Greenlaw back and we’re not into losing really good players who are unbelievable people.”
However, retaining him may be challenging due to salary cap constraints and interest from other teams. Reports indicate that both Greenlaw and fellow defensive player Talanoa Hufanga are attracting attention from other franchises, making it difficult for the 49ers to keep them both.
Greenlaw’s future in the NFL remains a topic of interest as teams assess their defensive needs ahead of the 2025 season.
