Issa Rae, born Jo-Issa Rae Diop on January 12, 1985, in Los Angeles, California, is a prominent American actress, writer, and producer. She gained initial recognition with her YouTube series “Awkward Black Girl” (2011–2013), which showcased her unique comedic perspective. Building on this success, Rae co-created, co-wrote, and starred in the HBO series “Insecure” (2016–2021), earning multiple Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy nominations.
Beyond television, Rae has made significant contributions to film. She appeared in “The Hate U Give” (2018), “Little” (2019), “The Photograph” (2020), and “The Lovebirds” (2020).
