Drake Stoops is an American football wide receiver currently playing for the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL. Born on June 16, 1999, in Norman, Oklahoma, he is the son of former Oklahoma Sooners head coach Bob Stoops.
Early Life and Education
Drake Stoops attended Norman North High School, where he had an impressive football career. In his junior year, he recorded 86 receptions for 1,536 yards and 20 touchdowns, leading his team to the state championship game. His senior year saw 67 receptions for 1,093 yards and 15 touchdowns in just 10 games. Over his high school career, he accumulated 201 catches for 3,390 yards and 39 touchdowns, earning two-time first-team all-state honors.
Despite his high school success, Stoops was considered a three-star recruit and received scholarship offers from schools like Air Force, Iowa, Memphis, Ohio, and Western Kentucky. He chose to walk on at the University of Oklahoma, following in the footsteps of his father and uncles, Mark and Mike Stoops, who have all been involved in football coaching.
College Career
During his time at Oklahoma (2018–2023), Stoops developed into a key player for the Sooners. In his senior year (2023), he led the team with 84 receptions, totaling 962 yards and 10 touchdowns. His performance earned him First-Team All-Big 12 honors and recognition as one of three finalists for the Burlsworth Trophy, awarded to the nation’s most outstanding player who began their career as a walk-on.
Professional Career
After going undrafted in 2024, Stoops signed with the Los Angeles Rams as a free agent. He spent his rookie season primarily on the practice squad, not appearing in any regular-season games. He signed a reserve/future contract with the Rams in January 2025.
Recent News
In March 2025, Stoops was suspended for the first two games of the NFL season due to a violation of the league’s performance-enhancing substances policy.
