Jordan Mason is an American professional football running back and kickoff returner for the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL. Born on May 24, 1999, in Gallatin, Tennessee, he played college football at Georgia Tech from 2017 to 2021. After going undrafted in 2022, Mason signed with the 49ers and made the initial 53-man roster. He had a notable rookie season, recording 43 carries for 258 yards and a touchdown over 16 games.

In 2023, he appeared in all 17 games, rushing 40 times for 206 yards and three touchdowns. The 2024 season saw Mason step up as a starter in place of the injured Christian McCaffrey, achieving 153 carries for 789 yards and three touchdowns, along with 11 receptions for 91 yards, before a high ankle sprain placed him on injured reserve in December.

In February 2025, 49ers general manager John Lynch announced that the team was exploring multiple contract options for Mason, including a one-year tender that could secure a second-round draft pick as compensation if another team signed him.

Mason’s emergence as a reliable running back has been a pleasant surprise for the 49ers, especially given his modest signing bonus of $10,000 as an undrafted rookie. His performance has provided the team with a cost-effective option in the running game, contributing significantly during McCaffrey’s absence.
