​James E. “Jeb” Boasberg is the Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Born on February 20, 1963, in San Francisco, California, he earned a Bachelor of Arts magna cum laude from Yale College in 1985, a Master of Studies in Modern European History from Oxford University in 1986, and a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School in 1990.

Before his appointment to the federal bench in 2011, Judge Boasberg served as an associate judge on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia from 2002 to 2011.

In recent developments, Judge Boasberg has been involved in scrutinizing the Trump administration’s use of wartime powers to deport Venezuelan nationals. Despite his verbal order to halt deportation flights to El Salvador, the administration proceeded, leading him to question their compliance.
