Doug Kiker, known as the “Singing Garbage Man” from Season 18 of “American Idol,” passed away on March 10, 2025, at the age of 32.
His ex-fiancée, Valerie Cook, and his sister, Angela Evans, confirmed his death. Kiker gained attention during his audition with a heartfelt performance of “Bless the Broken Road” by Rascal Flatts, which moved judge Katy Perry to tears. He advanced to Hollywood but was eventually eliminated, though he returned for the season finale.
The cause of his death has not been publicly disclosed; however, reports indicate he was hospitalized days before his passing after a concerned passerby in Denver called 911, fearing he might be experiencing a drug overdose.
Kiker is survived by his two children with Valerie Cook. A GoFundMe page has been established by his sister, Donna Kiker Carrillos-Ramirez, to raise funds for his funeral expenses.
