James Lance Bass, born on May 4, 1979, in Laurel, Mississippi, is an American singer, actor, producer, and activist. He gained prominence as the bass singer of the pop boy band *NSYNC, which became one of the best-selling boy bands of all time, selling over 70 million records worldwide.
Beyond his music career, Bass has ventured into acting and producing. He starred in the 2001 film “On the Line,” produced by his company, Bacon & Eggs. He also formed Lance Bass Productions and co-founded Free Lance Entertainment, a music management company in collaboration with Mercury Records.
In 2006, Bass publicly came out as gay and has since been an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. He was awarded the Human Rights Campaign Visibility Award in October 2006 and released his autobiography, “Out of Sync,” in October 2007.
In recent years, Bass has continued to engage in various projects. In January 2025, he reunited with *NSYNC bandmates Chris Kirkpatrick and Joey Fatone to support Fatone’s performance in the Broadway musical “& Juliet” in New York City.
Additionally, in February 2025, Bass attended the Children’s and Family Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, highlighting his ongoing involvement in the entertainment industry.
Bass is married to artist Michael Turchin, and the couple has twin children, Violet and Alexander, born in 2021. Bass has expressed his enthusiasm for Halloween, a holiday he cherishes, and has written a children’s book titled “Trick or Treat on Scary Street” to share his love for the festive occasion.
