Anthony Edwards, born on August 5, 2001, in Atlanta, Georgia, is an American professional basketball player who plays as a shooting guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA. He gained prominence during his high school years at Holy Spirit Preparatory School in Atlanta, earning McDonald’s All-American honors in 2019. Edwards played one season at the University of Georgia, where he was named SEC Freshman of the Year before declaring for the NBA draft.
Selected first overall by the Timberwolves in the 2020 NBA Draft, Edwards quickly made an impact in the league. In his rookie season, he averaged 19.3 points per game and was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. He has since developed into one of the league’s most dynamic scorers, earning three NBA All-Star selections and being named to the All-NBA Second Team in 2024.
In the 2023–2024 season, Edwards achieved several milestones, including a career-high 51-point game and leading the Timberwolves to their first playoff series win in 20 years.
