Tommy Lloyd is the current head coach of the Arizona Wildcats men’s basketball team. He began his tenure in April 2021, bringing with him over two decades of experience as an assistant coach at Gonzaga University. In his first two seasons at Arizona, Lloyd achieved 61 wins, setting a new record for the most wins by a head coach in their first two seasons in NCAA Division I history.
Under Lloyd’s leadership, the Wildcats have embraced a fast-paced and dynamic style of play, consistently ranking among the national leaders in scoring and assists. This approach has revitalized the team’s performance, leading to significant achievements in recent seasons.
Before Lloyd’s arrival, the Wildcats were led by Sean Miller, who served as head coach from 2009 to 2021. Miller departed Arizona to become the head coach at the University of Texas in March 2025, following a successful tenure that included multiple NCAA Tournament appearances.
The Arizona Wildcats men’s basketball team competes in the Big 12 Conference, a move that has provided the team with a more rigorous schedule and has been credited with preparing them for deep NCAA Tournament runs.
