Arizona State University’s (ASU) men’s basketball team, the Sun Devils, has a storied history, including three Elite Eight appearances (1961, 1963, 1975) and multiple conference championships. They have been led by head coach Bobby Hurley since 2015.
In the 2023–24 season, ASU finished with a 14–18 overall record and an 8–12 conference record in their final year in the Pac-12 Conference. They joined the Big 12 Conference starting with the 2024–25 season.
In their first Big 12 tournament appearance, ASU faced Kansas State and narrowly lost 71-66. The team struggled due to missing several key players but managed to tie the game after a strong start. However, Kansas State regained control with a significant run before halftime, leading 38-31 at the break. Alston Mason led Arizona State with 17 points.
On the women’s side, ASU’s women’s basketball team faced challenges, including a significant loss to TCU, where Madison Conner scored 22 points in the second half to lead No. 10 TCU to an 82-66 win over Arizona State.
Additionally, the team experienced internal changes, with the departure of women’s basketball coach Natasha Adair after three challenging seasons. The athletic department is now seeking a new coach, with potential candidates including Nikki Blue, Briann January, and Molly Miller.
