Born on June 28, 1971, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Bobby Hurley is a distinguished figure in American basketball, both as a player and a coach. He honed his skills at St. Anthony High School in Jersey City before committing to Duke University in 1989.
Playing Career at Duke
At Duke, Hurley was instrumental in the team’s success, leading them to two NCAA championships in 1991 and 1992. His exceptional play earned him the Final Four Most Outstanding Player award in 1992. Over his college career, he amassed 1,076 assists, setting a then-record for NCAA career assists.
Professional Career
In the 1993 NBA Draft, Hurley was selected 7th overall by the Sacramento Kings. He also played for the Vancouver Grizzlies during his five-year professional career, primarily serving as a point guard.
Coaching Career
Transitioning to coaching, Hurley served as an assistant at Wagner College and later as associate head coach at the University of Rhode Island. He became the head coach at the University at Buffalo, leading the team to a MAC tournament championship in 2015. Since 2015, he has been the head coach of the Arizona State Sun Devils men’s basketball team.
