Breitbart News is an American far-right news, opinion, and commentary website founded in mid-2007 by conservative commentator Andrew Breitbart. The site has been described as promoting misogynistic, xenophobic, and racist content, and has published conspiracy theories and misleading stories.
Under former executive chairman Steve Bannon, Breitbart News aligned with the alt-right movement and became a virtual rallying point for supporters of Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.
In February 2025, the Trump administration initiated a “Media Rotation Program,” resulting in major news organizations like The New York Times, NBC News, NPR, and Politico losing their Pentagon office spaces.
These spaces were reassigned to outlets including Breitbart News, The New York Post, One America News Network, and HuffPost News. This move drew criticism from affected media outlets and press associations, who viewed it as favoring conservative outlets and potentially limiting unbiased military reporting.
