Brooke Rollins, born on April 10, 1972, in Glen Rose, Texas, is an American attorney and politician currently serving as the 33rd U.S. Secretary of Agriculture under President Donald Trump. She is the second woman to hold this position, following Ann Veneman.
Early Life and Education
Rollins grew up on a farm in Glen Rose, Texas. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Development from Texas A&M University in 1994, where she made history as the first woman elected president of the student body. She later obtained her Juris Doctor from the University of Texas School of Law.
Career
- Texas Public Policy Foundation (2003–2018): Rollins served as president and CEO of this conservative think tank based in Austin, expanding its staff from three to 100 during her tenure.
- White House Positions (2018–2021): Under President Trump, she held roles including Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental and Technology Initiatives and Acting Director of the Domestic Policy Council.
- America First Policy Institute (2021–2025): Rollins founded and led this organization, aiming to promote Trump’s policy agenda.
Secretary of Agriculture
On November 23, 2024, President Trump nominated Rollins to lead the Department of Agriculture. She was confirmed by the Senate on February 13, 2025, with a vote of 72–28. In this role, she oversees programs related to farming, food safety, and rural development.
