Cam Smith, born on February 22, 2003, in Lake Worth, Florida, is a professional baseball right fielder and third baseman for the Houston Astros. He attended Palm Beach Central High School, where he earned the Sun Sentinel 7A-6A Player of the Year honors in 2022 by hitting .435 with six home runs and 32 RBIs. He continued his baseball career at Florida State University, playing as a freshman in 2023 and starting 51 games with a .258 batting average, 12 home runs, and 36 RBIs. That summer, he played for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks in the Cape Cod Baseball League, earning a league all-star selection and the Outstanding Pro Prospect award.
In the 2024 MLB Draft, the Chicago Cubs selected Smith 14th overall. He signed with the Cubs in July 2024 and played 32 games across Single-A, High-A, and Double-A affiliates, posting a .313 batting average with seven home runs and 24 RBIs. In December 2024, the Astros acquired Smith, along with Isaac Paredes and Hayden Wesneski, in exchange for outfielder Kyle Tucker.
Smith’s rapid rise continued when he made the Astros’ Opening Day roster in March 2025, playing in just 32 minor league games. In his major league debut on March 27, 2025, Smith achieved a significant milestone by recording his first career hit—a single off Mets pitcher Clay Holmes. This hit contributed to the Astros’ 3-1 victory over the New York Mets.
Beyond his on-field performance, Smith has endeared himself to teammates with gestures like bringing Shipley’s Do-Nuts to the clubhouse, reflecting his team-oriented attitude. His swift progression from limited minor league experience to MLB starter highlights his exceptional talent and the Astros’ confidence in his abilities.
