Charvarius Ward is a professional American football cornerback currently playing for the Indianapolis Colts in the NFL. Born on May 16, 1996, in McComb, Mississippi, Ward began his college career at Hinds Community College before transferring to Middle Tennessee State University. Despite not being selected in the 2018 NFL Draft, he signed with the Dallas Cowboys as a free agent. Ward was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs shortly before the 2018 season began. Over his four seasons with the Chiefs, he earned a Super Bowl LIV title and established himself as a reliable starter.
In March 2022, Ward signed a three-year, $40.5 million contract with the San Francisco 49ers. He delivered standout performances, including a career-high five interceptions and leading the league with 23 pass breakups in the 2023 season. This impressive play earned him Pro Bowl honors and a spot on the second-team All-Pro list. However, in October 2024, Ward faced personal tragedy with the sudden death of his 1-year-old daughter, Amani. This loss, coupled with painful memories in California, influenced his decision to leave the 49ers.
Ward’s tenure with the 49ers concluded with his departure to the Indianapolis Colts on a three-year, $60 million contract, with $35 million guaranteed.
This move marked the end of a significant chapter in Ward’s career, characterized by both professional achievements and personal hardships.
