Early Life and Education
Holmgren attended Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis, where he was a standout basketball player. He played alongside Jalen Suggs, a current Orlando Magic guard. In college, Holmgren played for the Gonzaga Bulldogs during the 2021–2022 season, earning accolades such as the WCC Defensive Player of the Year and the WCC Newcomer of the Year.
Professional Career
The Oklahoma City Thunder selected Holmgren as the second overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, making him the highest-drafted player from both Gonzaga and Minnesota. He made his NBA debut on October 25, 2023, contributing 11 points and four rebounds in a win against the Chicago Bulls.
On November 18, 2023, Holmgren achieved a career-high 36 points, along with 10 rebounds, five assists, two steals, and two blocks in an overtime victory against the Golden State Warriors.
However, on November 10, 2024, Holmgren suffered a right iliac wing fracture after a fall during a game against the Golden State Warriors, sidelining him for 8–10 weeks. He returned to play on February 7, 2025.
