cleveland guardians

The Cleveland Guardians are a professional baseball team based in Cleveland, Ohio, competing in Major League Baseball’s American League Central Division. Established in 1894, the franchise has undergone several name changes, including Cleveland Blues, Cleveland Naps, and Cleveland Indians. In 2021, the team adopted the Guardians moniker, inspired by the “Guardians of Traffic” sculptures on the Hope Memorial Bridge near their home stadium, Progressive Field.

In the 2024 season, the Guardians clinched the American League Central division title with a 92-70 record, marking their first division title since 2018. They advanced to the American League Championship Series but fell to the New York Yankees in five games.

In a notable offseason move, the Guardians signed former outfielder Tyler Naquin to a minor league contract, transitioning him to a pitcher at age 34. Naquin previously played eight MLB seasons, primarily with Cleveland, and is attempting this position change later in his career.

As of March 12, 2025, the Guardians are in spring training, preparing for the upcoming season. Their most recent game on March 10 resulted in a 1-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

Looking ahead, the Guardians are scheduled to open their 2025 season on March 28, facing the Oakland Athletics on the road.
