Disney and Pixar have officially announced the development of “Coco 2,” a sequel to the 2017 Academy Award-winning film “Coco.” The original movie, celebrated for its vibrant depiction of Mexican culture and its heartfelt narrative, earned over $800 million globally and won two Academy Awards, including Best Animated Feature.
The sequel will see the return of the original creative team: directors Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina, and producer Mark Nielsen. Disney CEO Bob Iger teased that while the film is in its early stages, it will be “full of humor, heart, and adventure.”
“Coco 2” is slated for theatrical release in 2029. Further details, including plot specifics and a precise release date, are yet to be announced.
