The College Board is a nonprofit organization in the United States that aims to expand access to higher education. Founded in 1900 and headquartered in New York City, it serves over 6,000 educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities.
The College Board develops and administers standardized tests and curricula, such as the SAT and Advanced Placement (AP) programs, to promote college readiness and assist in the college admissions process.
Recently, the College Board has faced scrutiny regarding its role in financial aid practices. A federal lawsuit filed in October 2024 alleges that the College Board, along with several prestigious universities, conspired to inflate tuition costs by considering noncustodial parents’ assets in financial aid calculations.
The lawsuit seeks over $5 million in damages and aims to end the alleged price-fixing agreement.
