On March 17, 2025, UFC fighter Conor McGregor visited the White House to meet with President Donald Trump in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. During his visit, McGregor criticized the Irish government’s immigration policies, claiming that “illegal immigration is ravaging the country” and accusing the government of “zero action and zero accountability.”
This prompted a response from Irish leaders, with Prime Minister Micheál Martin stating that McGregor’s remarks “do not reflect the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day or the views of the people of Ireland.”
