Daniel Ekuale is a Samoan-American professional football defensive tackle currently playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL. Born on January 13, 1994, in Pago Pago, American Samoa, he stands 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 310 pounds.

Early Life and Education

Ekuale attended Nuʻuuli Vocational Technical High School in American Samoa, where he was recognized as the top college prospect in his class. He committed to Washington State University, choosing it over offers from other schools, including Oregon, Oregon State, and Washington.

At Washington State, he played college football from 2013 to 2017, starting as a nose tackle and earning honors such as being named to the watch list for the Polynesian College Football Player of the Year. Over his collegiate career, he accumulated 71 total tackles, 14 for loss, and three sacks.

Professional Career

  • Cleveland Browns (2018–2019): Ekuale signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in May 2018. He debuted in the NFL in September 2019, recording four tackles, one for a loss, in seven games before a calf injury placed him on injured reserve.
  • Jacksonville Jaguars (2020): In September 2020, he joined the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad and was promoted to the active roster later that month. He achieved his first career sack against the Minnesota Vikings in December 2020.
  • New England Patriots (2021–2024): Ekuale signed with the Patriots in September 2021, initially joining their practice squad before being elevated to the 53-man roster. He signed a reserve/future contract in January 2022 but faced a two-game suspension at the start of the 2022 season. In March 2023, he re-signed with the Patriots but suffered a torn biceps in Week 3, leading to his placement on injured reserve.
