In this adaptation, Clooney portrays pioneering journalist Edward R. Murrow, depicting Murrow’s courageous efforts to challenge Senator Joseph McCarthy’s anti-communist tactics during the 1950s. Clooney co-wrote both the original screenplay and the stage adaptation alongside Grant Heslov, with direction by David Cromer.
