georgia tornado

Over the past weekend, Georgia experienced significant storm activity, including tornadoes that caused substantial damage in certain regions.

Impact in South Georgia:

  • On Sunday morning, tornadoes affected parts of Colquitt and Mitchell counties. In Mitchell County, a community center in Pebble City was flattened, and trees were down on Highway 37 near Sale City Road. Colquitt County also reported downed trees on Highway 133 North.
  • Additionally, storm damage was reported in parts of Colquitt and Mitchell counties following Sunday morning storms.

State of Emergency and Tornado Watches:

The severity of the storms led officials to issue a state of emergency for Georgia. A tornado watch was in effect until 3 p.m. ET on Sunday for portions of southeastern Georgia and northern Florida, according to the Storm Prediction Center.

While the central and southern parts of the state bore the brunt of the tornadoes, other regions, including metro Atlanta and North Georgia, experienced severe weather conditions such as high winds and storm damage.

Given Georgia’s susceptibility to tornadoes, particularly during peak seasons from March to May, it’s crucial for residents to stay informed about weather conditions and have plans in place for sheltering during such events.
