Grambling State University, located in Grambling, Louisiana, boasts competitive men’s and women’s basketball programs that compete in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).
Men’s Basketball:
The Grambling State Tigers men’s basketball team has experienced significant success in recent years. In the 2023–24 season, they achieved a 21–15 overall record and a 14–4 conference record, securing both the SWAC regular-season and tournament championships. This victory marked their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament. They won their First Four game against Montana State but fell to Purdue in the subsequent round.
The 2024–25 season saw the Tigers finish with a 12–21 record, including a 7–11 mark in SWAC play. Despite the challenges, the team continues to build on its recent achievements.
Women’s Basketball:
The Grambling State Tigers women’s basketball team also had a notable 2023–24 season. Under the leadership of first-year head coach Courtney Simmons, the team posted a 23–10 overall record and a 15–3 conference record, earning a spot in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) and advancing to the second round.
Both teams play their home games at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center on the university’s campus.
