Greg McDermott, born on November 25, 1964, in Cascade, Iowa, is a distinguished American basketball coach currently serving as the head coach of the Creighton Bluejays men’s basketball team.

Coaching Career:

  • Wayne State College (1994–2000): McDermott began his head coaching career at Wayne State College, leading the team to a 116–53 record over six seasons.
  • North Dakota State (2000–2001): He spent one season at North Dakota State, achieving a 15–11 record.​
  • Northern Iowa (2001–2006): As head coach, McDermott guided the Panthers to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances from 2004 to 2006.
  • Iowa State (2006–2010): During his tenure, he led the Cyclones to a 59–68 record.
  • Creighton (2010–Present): Since joining Creighton, McDermott has significantly elevated the program, leading the Bluejays to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances and securing a Big East regular-season championship in 2020.

Career Milestones:

  • Achieved his 500th career win during the 2019–20 season.​
  • In November 2024, surpassed Dana Altman for the most coaching wins in Creighton program history, reaching 328 wins.
  • Received a contract extension in March 2024, keeping him at Creighton through the 2027–2028 season.​
