Indiana University has appointed Darian DeVries as the new head coach of its men’s basketball program, succeeding Mike Woodson. DeVries, 49, joins Indiana from West Virginia, where he led the team to a 19-13 record in his sole season, including notable victories over Gonzaga, Kansas, and Iowa State.
Prior to West Virginia, DeVries spent six successful seasons at Drake University, achieving six consecutive 20-win seasons and earning three NCAA Tournament appearances. His overall coaching record stands at 169-68.
Indiana’s Athletic Director, Scott Dolson, praised DeVries for his extensive experience, which includes 15 NCAA Tournament appearances as both a head coach and assistant, and for his ability to build a championship culture. DeVries expressed excitement about leading Indiana’s storied basketball program and emphasized his commitment to assembling a competitive team.
Mike Woodson, who served as Indiana’s head coach for four seasons, stepped down following the 2024-25 season, during which the Hoosiers finished with a 19-13 record and missed the NCAA Tournament.
