Isaac Edgardo Paredes Calderón (born February 18, 1999, in Hermosillo, Mexico) is a professional baseball third baseman for the Houston Astros in Major League Baseball (MLB). Over his career, Paredes has also played for the Detroit Tigers, Tampa Bay Rays, and Chicago Cubs.
In December 2024, the Astros acquired Paredes from the Cubs. He signed a one-year, $6.625 million contract, reflecting the team’s confidence in his abilities. Paredes is expected to replace Alex Bregman at third base, following Bregman’s departure via free agency. Manager Joe Espada has encouraged Paredes to play his own game, acknowledging Bregman’s significant legacy while emphasizing the importance of Paredes’ unique contributions.
Paredes is known for his pull-heavy hitting style, which aligns well with the Astros’ ballpark dimensions, particularly the short left-field porch. In Spring Training, he hit a solo home run against the Triple-A Sugar Land Space Cowboys, showcasing his potential to capitalize on Houston’s favorable hitting conditions.
Defensively, Paredes possesses a strong and accurate arm but is working to improve plays to his left, a focus area given Houston’s groundball pitcher rotation. His versatility allows him to play multiple infield positions, including first and second base, providing the Astros with valuable flexibility.
As the 2025 season begins, Paredes is poised to make a significant impact on the Astros’ lineup, bringing a combination of power, versatility, and a strong work ethic to his new team.
