Jessica Aber, 43, was the former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. She served in this role from October 2021 until her resignation in January 2025. Aber was appointed by President Joe Biden and was unanimously confirmed by the Senate.
Prior to her tenure as U.S. Attorney, she worked as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia from 2009 to 2021 and served as counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice from 2015 to 2016.
On March 22, 2025, Aber was found dead at her residence in Alexandria, Virginia. The Alexandria Police Department responded to a call reporting an “unresponsive woman” and discovered her body. The cause and circumstances of her death are under investigation, with the Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the official cause.
Erik S. Siebert, the current U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, expressed profound grief over Aber’s passing, stating she was “unmatched as a leader, mentor, and prosecutor.”
Attorney General Pamela Bondi also mourned Aber’s death, offering condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time.
