Jessie Holmes is a professional dog musher and television personality known for his role on the National Geographic series “Life Below Zero.” Born in Alabama, Holmes now resides in Nenana, Alaska, where he works as a carpenter. He has participated in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race multiple times, earning a top-10 finish in each of his first six races. In 2018, he was honored as the race’s “Rookie of the Year.”
In March 2025, Holmes achieved his first Iditarod victory, completing the 1,128-mile race in 10 days, 14 hours, 55 minutes, and 41 seconds. This year’s race was notably the longest in its history, requiring a modified route due to insufficient snow. Holmes credited his lead dogs, Hercules and Polar, for their exceptional performance, describing the experience as “magical.”
