As of March 11, 2025, both the men’s and women’s basketball teams at James Madison University (JMU) have concluded their regular seasons and are preparing for postseason play.

Men’s Basketball:

The JMU Dukes men’s basketball team finished the 2024–25 regular season with a 20–11 overall record and a 13–5 mark in Sun Belt Conference play, earning a share of the regular-season conference title. Under first-year head coach Preston Spradlin, the Dukes secured the No. 2 seed in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, granting them a bye into the semifinals. Key players include redshirt senior guard Mark Freeman, who was named to the preseason All-Sun Belt First Team, and junior guard Xavier Brown, who earned a spot on the preseason third team.

The Sun Belt Men’s Basketball Tournament is set to begin on March 4, 2025, in Pensacola, Florida, with the championship game scheduled for March 10.

Women’s Basketball:

The JMU Dukes women’s basketball team completed an impressive regular season with a 27–4 overall record and an unblemished 18–0 record in Sun Belt Conference play, clinching the regular-season conference championship. Led by ninth-year head coach Sean O’Regan, the Dukes secured the No. 1 seed in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, earning a bye into the semifinals. Standout performances include that of Peyton McDaniel, the conference’s second-highest scorer, who has been instrumental in the team’s success.

The Sun Belt Women’s Basketball Tournament is also set to begin on March 4, 2025, in Pensacola, Florida, with the championship game scheduled for March 10.

Both teams aim to secure conference tournament championships and automatic bids to their respective NCAA tournaments.
