John Gotti (October 27, 1940 – June 10, 2002) was a prominent American mobster who led New York City’s Gambino crime family. Born in the South Bronx, he rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most infamous figures in organized crime. Gotti orchestrated the assassination of Gambino boss Paul Castellano in December 1985, seizing control of the family shortly thereafter.
