Jonathan Kuminga is a professional basketball player from the Democratic Republic of Congo, currently playing as a forward for the Golden State Warriors in the NBA. Born on October 6, 2002, in Goma, Congo, Kuminga began playing basketball at the age of two. He moved to the United States in 2016 to pursue his basketball career, attending Huntington Prep School in West Virginia for his freshman year.

He later transferred to Our Savior New American School in New York, where he averaged 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists per game during his sophomore year. For his junior year, Kuminga moved to The Patrick School in New Jersey, averaging 16.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game.

In July 2020, Kuminga joined the NBA G League Ignite, a developmental team, foregoing college basketball. He debuted on February 10, 2021, recording 19 points, four assists, and four rebounds in a win against the Santa Cruz Warriors. He averaged 15.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game during his time with the Ignite.

The Golden State Warriors selected Kuminga with the 7th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. He signed with the team in August 2021 and made his NBA debut on October 30, 2021, contributing three points and one steal in a win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. In his first career start on December 18, 2021, Kuminga scored 26 points in a loss to the Toronto Raptors.

He played a significant role in the Warriors’ 2022 NBA Championship victory over the Boston Celtics, becoming the second-youngest NBA champion at 19 years and 253 days, after Darko Miličić.

On January 24, 2024, Kuminga scored 25 points on a perfect 11-for-11 shooting in a win against the Atlanta Hawks, tying Chris Mullin’s franchise record for most field goals made without a miss. He matched this performance the next day, recording another 34-point game in a win over the Phoenix Suns.

However, on January 4, 2025, Kuminga sustained a right ankle sprain during a game against the Memphis Grizzlies, sidelining him for multiple games. As of March 12, 2025, he has missed 31 consecutive games due to this injury. Kuminga has recently begun scrimmaging and participating in workouts, aiming for a return to action on March 13, 2025, against the Sacramento Kings.
