Jordan Chiles is an American gymnast renowned for her dynamic performances and resilience. Born on April 15, 2001, in Tualatin, Oregon, she is the daughter of Timothy and Gina Chiles. Her father is Black, and her mother is Latina. Chiles was named after basketball legend Michael Jordan. She has four siblings: Jazmin, Jade, Tajmen, and Tyrus. Growing up in Vancouver, Washington, she moved to Spring, Texas, in 2019 to train at the World Champions Centre alongside Simone Biles.

Chiles gained national attention during the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Initially not a top contender, she stepped in for Simone Biles on uneven bars and balance beam, contributing to the U.S. team’s silver medal. In the floor exercise final, she was awarded a bronze medal. However, due to a scoring controversy, the medal was later rescinded, a decision that was upheld after appeals.

In 2024, Chiles competed in the Paris Olympics. She helped the U.S. team secure gold and reached the floor exercise final. Initially awarded the bronze, this was again revoked after a late appeal from the Romanian Gymnastics Federation, a decision confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Beyond gymnastics, Chiles has made significant strides in other areas. She has been featured in Nike’s Super Bowl commercial and Time magazine’s “Women of the Year.” Her memoir, “I’m That Girl: Living the Power of My Dreams,” addresses challenges such as racism in gymnastics and personal struggles, including an experience leading to an eating disorder.

Chiles continues to be a vocal advocate for women’s sports and athletes’ mental health, drawing inspiration from mentors like Simone Biles. She remains focused on her career, aiming for future successes and continued contributions to the sport.
