He began his MLB career with the St. Louis Cardinals, debuting in 2018. In July 2023, he was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays. Hicks signed a four-year, $44 million contract with the Giants in January 2024, transitioning from a reliever to a starting pitcher.

On March 31, 2025, Hicks delivered a stellar performance in his season debut for the Giants against his hometown Houston Astros. He pitched six shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out six batters. This game held special significance for Hicks, as he played in front of approximately 80 friends and family members.

Hicks is renowned for his exceptional velocity, having been clocked throwing as fast as 105 mph during his career. After a challenging 2024 season marked by shoulder inflammation and reduced velocity, he dedicated his offseason to regaining his form. Hicks added 14 pounds to improve endurance and focused on maintaining high-intensity pitching, successfully reaching 100 mph multiple times in his spring debut.

In his most recent outing, Hicks’ dominant performance, coupled with Wilmer Flores’ three-run homer and Matt Chapman’s two-run single, led the Giants to a 7-2 victory over the Astros.
