Kelly Loeffler is an American businesswoman and politician who currently serves as the Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), a position she has held since February 20, 2025.

Early Life and Career

Born on November 27, 1970, in Bloomington, Illinois, Loeffler pursued higher education at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, earning a Bachelor of Science degree, and later obtained an MBA from DePaul University. She has held various executive roles, including serving as CEO of Bakkt, a subsidiary of Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), where her husband, Jeffrey Sprecher, is CEO.

Additionally, she co-owned the Atlanta Dream, a team in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). ​

Political Career

In December 2019, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp appointed Loeffler to the U.S. Senate following Senator Johnny Isakson’s resignation. She served from January 2020 to January 2021, during which she aligned closely with President Donald Trump. In the January 2021 runoff election, she was defeated by Democrat Raphael Warnock.

Post-Senate Activities

After her Senate tenure, Loeffler founded Greater Georgia, an organization aimed at registering conservative voters and promoting election security measures. She also joined the board of directors of PublicSquare, an online marketplace catering to conservative consumers. In the 2024 presidential election cycle, she was a significant financial supporter of Trump’s re-election campaign, contributing over $4.9 million.

SBA Leadership

President Trump nominated Loeffler to lead the SBA in December 2024, and she was confirmed by the Senate on February 19, 2025, with a 52-46 vote. Since assuming office, she has initiated a major reorganization of the agency, resulting in a 40% reduction in its workforce to streamline operations and reduce bureaucracy.
