Kenny Omega, born Tyson Smith on October 16, 1983, is a Canadian professional wrestler renowned for his dynamic in-ring style and significant contributions to various wrestling promotions worldwide. He is currently signed with All Elite Wrestling (AEW), where he serves as both an active competitor and an executive vice president.
As of March 9, 2025, Omega clinched the AEW International Championship by defeating Konosuke Takeshita at the AEW Revolution pay-per-view event.
Prior to his tenure in AEW, Omega achieved considerable acclaim in New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) from 2014 to 2019. During this period, he held prestigious titles such as the IWGP Heavyweight Championship and the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship.
His matches, particularly against Kazuchika Okada, have been lauded for their exceptional quality, with one bout receiving a rare seven-star rating from wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer.
Omega’s wrestling style is heavily influenced by video game culture, often integrating gaming elements into his persona and performances. Notably, upon his return to NJPW on January 5, 2025, after a year-long hiatus due to health issues, he introduced a new entrance theme composed by Masayoshi Soken, famed for his work on Final Fantasy XIV and XVI.
Throughout his career, Omega has been recognized as one of the premier wrestlers globally, earning accolades such as Sports Illustrated’s “Wrestler of the Year” in 2017 and topping Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s list of the 500 best male wrestlers in both 2018 and 2021.
His recent victory at AEW Revolution not only adds to his impressive championship resume but also sets the stage for potential high-profile feuds, possibly rekindling his storied rivalry with Kazuchika Okada.
