Kevin Kiley is an American politician and attorney serving as the U.S. Representative for California’s 3rd congressional district since 2023. A member of the Republican Party, he previously represented the 6th district in the California State Assembly from 2016 to 2022.
Early Life and Education
Born on January 30, 1985, in Sacramento, California, Kiley graduated as valedictorian from Granite Bay High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Harvard University in 2007, a master’s from Loyola Marymount University, and a law degree from Yale University. Before entering politics, Kiley worked as a teacher and adjunct law professor, and practiced law at Irell & Manella.
Political Career
- California State Assembly (2016–2022): Kiley was elected to the State Assembly in 2016, representing the 6th district. He authored legislation to facilitate student transfers between school districts and introduced measures to increase government transparency.
- 2021 Gubernatorial Recall Election: Kiley ran in the recall election aiming to remove Governor Gavin Newsom from office. He positioned himself as a conservative alternative, focusing on issues like school choice and government accountability.
- U.S. House of Representatives (2023–Present): Following redistricting, Kiley was elected to Congress in 2022, representing the 3rd district. He was reelected in November 2024.
Recent Activities
- Coastal Commission Accountability Act: In March 2025, Kiley introduced legislation to limit the California Coastal Commission’s federal powers, aiming to expedite coastal activities, including national security projects and infrastructure development.
- Virtual Town Hall: On March 17, 2025, Kiley hosted a virtual town hall that attracted significant interest, with thousands of constituents participating. Due to overwhelming demand, some callers were unable to join the event.
