He began his college basketball career with the Minnesota Golden Gophers, earning honors such as Big Ten Freshman of the Year and First-Team All-Big Ten in 2004. Humphries declared for the NBA draft after his freshman year and was selected 14th overall by the Utah Jazz.

Throughout his NBA career, he played for several teams, including the Utah Jazz, Toronto Raptors, Dallas Mavericks, New Jersey/Brooklyn Nets, Boston Celtics, Washington Wizards, Phoenix Suns, and Atlanta Hawks.
