Lisa McClain is an American politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Michigan’s 9th congressional district since 2023. A member of the Republican Party, she has held various leadership roles, including Chair of the House Republican Conference since January 2025.
Early Life and Education
Born on April 7, 1966, in Stockbridge, Michigan, McClain graduated from Stockbridge Junior/Senior High School in 1984. She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Northwood University in Midland, Michigan, after attending Lansing Community College.
Professional Background
Before entering politics, McClain worked at American Express for 11 years and later at the Hantz Group from 1998 to 2019.
Political Career
- 2020 Election: McClain was elected to represent Michigan’s 10th congressional district, succeeding retiring Congressman Paul Mitchell. She secured 66.3% of the vote against Democratic nominee Kimberly Bizon.
- 2022 and 2024 Elections: Following redistricting, McClain won elections in the 9th congressional district, consistently securing approximately 64% of the vote in both years.
Leadership Roles
- House Republican Conference Chair: In January 2025, McClain was elected Chair of the House Republican Conference, succeeding Elise Stefanik.
Personal Life
McClain and her husband, Michael, have four children and reside in Romeo, a northern suburb of Detroit. She is a Roman Catholic and has been actively involved in fundraising for multiple sclerosis research.
