Mackenzie Mgbako is a 6-foot-8-inch, 217-pound forward from Gladstone, New Jersey. He began his college basketball career with the Indiana Hoosiers in the 2023–2024 season, following a standout high school career at Roselle Catholic High School in New Jersey. In his freshman year, Mgbako averaged 12.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game, earning Big Ten co-Freshman of the Year honors alongside Iowa’s Owen Freeman.
After two seasons at Indiana, Mgbako announced on March 24, 2025, that he is entering the transfer portal while also considering declaring for the NBA draft.
He cited recent coaching changes, including the resignation of Coach Mike Woodson and the hiring of Darian DeVries from West Virginia, as factors influencing his decision. During his time at Indiana, Mgbako played in 65 games, starting 64, and averaged 12.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.
Mgbako’s decision to enter the transfer portal makes him the third Indiana player to do so following the coaching changes, highlighting the shifting dynamics within the Hoosiers’ roster.
