macy stores closing

Macy’s has announced plans to close 66 stores across the United States in 2025 as part of its “Bold New Chapter” strategy to return to sustainable, profitable sales growth. These closures are part of a larger plan to shutter 150 underperforming locations by the end of 2026.

The stores identified for closure span various states, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.

Notably, the closures include longstanding stores such as the flagship location in Philadelphia, which has been operational for 20 years, and the Brooklyn store at 422 Fulton Street, which had been serving customers since 1995.

In Oregon, the Macy’s store in Salem is among those slated for closure. The company plans to invest in its remaining 350 locations, focusing on enhancing the customer experience and modernizing stores.

These closures are part of a broader trend affecting the retail industry, with over 2,500 stores expected to close across the U.S. in 2025.
