Sven Magnus Øen Carlsen, born on November 30, 1990, is a Norwegian chess grandmaster renowned for his exceptional talent and contributions to the game. He ascended to the pinnacle of the chess world by becoming a grandmaster at the age of 13 and held the World Chess Championship title from 2013 to 2023.

Carlsen has also secured multiple World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships, solidifying his status as one of the greatest chess players in history.

In recent years, Carlsen has shifted his focus towards promoting chess as a spectator-friendly sport. He launched an app called “Take Take Take,” designed to make following live games more accessible and engaging for fans.

Additionally, Carlsen has been instrumental in popularizing Freestyle Chess, also known as Chess960 or Fischer Random, a variant that randomizes the starting positions of the back-row pieces to encourage creativity and reduce reliance on memorized openings. He participated in the inaugural Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour, which aimed to elevate chess players to celebrity status, similar to Formula 1 drivers.
