Meadville is a city in northwestern Pennsylvania, serving as the county seat of Crawford County. Established in 1788, it holds the distinction of being the first permanent settlement in the region. Located approximately 40 miles from Erie and 90 miles from Pittsburgh, Meadville is part of the larger Erie-Meadville combined statistical area.

Meadville covers a total area of 4.4 square miles, all of which is land. The city experiences a warm-summer humid continental climate, characterized by warm summers and cold winters. Temperature extremes have ranged from 104°F on July 9, 1936, to -23°F on January 31, 1948.

As of the 2020 census, Meadville’s population was 13,050, with a population density of approximately 2,992 people per square mile. The racial composition was predominantly White (93.3%), followed by Black or African American (6.3%), Asian (0.9%), and other races. The median age was 36.3 years, and the median annual income for a household was $40,694.
Education
Meadville is home to Allegheny College, established in 1815. The college enrolls approximately 2,000 students and offers a range of undergraduate programs.

- David Mead Log Cabin: A replica of the original log cabin built by the city’s founder, David Mead, located in Bicentennial Park along French Creek.

Recent Events
In March 2025, a high school basketball game between Uniontown and Meadville was marred by a brawl involving fans and players. The incident led to the game being halted with Meadville leading 63-55, and at least two adults were escorted out in handcuffs. Meadville police are considering charges of disorderly conduct as investigations continue.
