Howard led the conference with 33 points in 24 games and ranked fifth nationally with 47 points, including 24 goals and 23 assists. He also earned First-team All-Big Ten honors and is a semifinalist for the Hobey Baker Award, given to the top college hockey player.

In the Big Ten Tournament Championship game, the Spartans triumphed over the Ohio State Buckeyes in a thrilling double-overtime victory. Howard completed a hat trick, scoring the decisive game-winning goal.
