Nate Oats is the head coach of the University of Alabama’s men’s basketball team. Born on October 13, 1974, he began his coaching career at Romulus High School in Michigan before moving on to the University at Buffalo. At Buffalo, Oats led the Bulls to multiple Mid-American Conference (MAC) championships and earned MAC Coach of the Year honors twice.
In March 2019, he became the head coach at Alabama, where he has continued to build on his success. Under his leadership, the Crimson Tide won both the SEC regular-season and tournament titles in the 2020–21 season, and reached the NCAA tournament’s Sweet Sixteen.
The team achieved a school-record 31 wins in the 2022–23 season and secured the top overall seed in the NCAA tournament. In March 2024, Oats guided Alabama to its first Final Four appearance in program history.
