Nick Richards is a Jamaican professional basketball player who plays as a center for the Phoenix Suns in the NBA. Born on November 29, 1997, in Kingston, Jamaica, Richards moved to the United States during his youth and attended high school at St. Mary’s in Manhasset, New York, and later at The Patrick School in Hillside, New Jersey.
He was a five-star recruit and committed to the University of Kentucky in November 2016. During his junior year at Kentucky, Richards averaged 14.0 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game, earning First-Team All-SEC honors.
In the 2020 NBA Draft, Richards was selected 42nd overall by the New Orleans Pelicans and was immediately traded to the Charlotte Hornets. Over his tenure with the Hornets, he developed into a significant contributor. On March 22, 2023, Richards signed a three-year, $15 million contract extension with the team. He achieved career-highs, including a 26-point, 13-rebound performance against the Utah Jazz on January 27, 2024.
On January 15, 2025, Richards was traded to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for guard Josh Okogie and draft picks. In his debut with the Suns, he recorded a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds off the bench in a win against the Detroit Pistons. Richards has continued to be a valuable asset for the Suns, averaging 9.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
