nintendo switch 2

Nintendo has officially announced the Nintendo Switch 2, the successor to the original Nintendo Switch console. The Switch 2 retains the hybrid design, allowing it to function both as a handheld device and when docked for TV play. It features a larger screen, redesigned Joy-Con controllers that attach magnetically, and enhanced performance capabilities.

Backward compatibility is a key feature, enabling players to use both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games on the new console. However, some games may not be fully compatible, and more details will be provided later. Additionally, a new Mario Kart game has been previewed for the Switch 2.

A Nintendo Direct presentation titled “Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 – 4.2.2025” is scheduled for Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 6 a.m. PDT. This event is expected to reveal comprehensive details about the Switch 2, including release dates, pricing, and launch titles.

Following the presentation, Nintendo will host hands-on events in New York, Los Angeles, and Dallas, providing attendees with the opportunity to experience the Switch 2 firsthand. Registration for these events requires a free Nintendo Account.

Pre-orders for the Switch 2 are anticipated to open shortly after the April 2 presentation. However, due to high demand, some retailers expect pre-order units to sell out on the first day.
