Patrick Maroon, born on April 23, 1988, in St. Louis, Missouri, is an American professional ice hockey left wing currently playing for the Chicago Blackhawks. Over his 14-season NHL career, Maroon has also played for the Anaheim Ducks, Edmonton Oilers, New Jersey Devils, St. Louis Blues, Tampa Bay Lightning, Minnesota Wild, and Boston Bruins. Standing 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighing 234 pounds, he earned the nickname “Big Rig” for his imposing presence on the ice.
Maroon is renowned for his role as a power forward, combining size, skill, and grit. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the sixth round of the 2007 NHL Draft but made his NHL debut with the Anaheim Ducks during the 2011–12 season. Throughout his career, Maroon has been recognized for his offensive contributions and physical style of play.
A highlight of Maroon’s career is his remarkable success in the Stanley Cup playoffs. He won the Stanley Cup with the St. Louis Blues in 2019, marking the franchise’s first championship. He then secured back-to-back Cups with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020 and 2021, becoming the first player since the expansion era began in 1967 to win three consecutive Stanley Cups with different teams.
On March 22, 2025, Maroon announced that he would retire from professional hockey at the end of the current season. In his retirement announcement, he expressed the difficulty of ending his career but felt it was time to start a new chapter with his family.
